# 🔌Root Mean Squared value (RMS value)🔌

RMS value is a constant voltage value or current value for calculating AC power consumption.

(Power consumption) = (voltage) × (current), but let’s see what happens in the case of alternating current using Excel under the following conditions.
1[Hz]、1.0[Vmax]、1[s]　Voltage waveform（Fig１）
1[Hz]、0.1[Amax]、1[s]　Current waveform（Fig２）

10[Ω]

[Vmax]：Max voltage
[Amax]：Max current
[Vrms]：Root Mean Squared voltage
[Arms]：Root Mean Squared current
[Vave]：Average voltage
[Aave]：Average current
[Vabs]：Absolute voltage
[Aabs]：Absolute current

Taking the average value of power consumption in Fig. 3, it is about 0.05 [W].
Furthermore, if you use the formula ③, a value of 0.707 appears. This is the RMS value and is described as 0.707 [Vrms].

By the way, even if you do not use Excel, you can calculate it by calculating the formula　” [Vrms]＝[Vmax] ÷ √2 “.

It can be understood from the above that ” [W] ≠ [Vave] × [Aave] “.Fig. 4, 5 and 6 show the difference between the RMS value and the average value.

1[Hz]、1.0[Vmax]、1[s]

If you want to calculate in Excel, be careful of the points that represent the waveform.（もし自分でもエクセルで計算したいと思う人は波形を表現する点数に気をつけること）
